The Battle Belongs to the Lord

One of my favorite stories in Scripture is in the book of 2 Chronicles.  Jehosphaphat is a man of God.  He sought God for direction.  He led as he believed God had instructed.

Jehoshaphat and his people were under attach from a vast army.  Jehosphaphat cried out to the Lord, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”  2 Chronicles 20:12

Then… “All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the Lord.”  (2 Chronicles 20:13).

When the people of Judah did not know what to do, they kept their eyes on God and stood before Him.  After the people stood before their Lord.  God began to speak through a man named Jahaziel.

He told them, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.  For the battle is not yours, but God’s… Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you… Go out to face them tomorrow, the LORD will be with you.”

Jehosphaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah fell down in worship before the LORD.  (2 Chronicles 20:17-18)

Early the next morning the king and his men went out to face the army.  Jehoshaphat appointed men to go before them singing praises to God.  Then as they began to sing, the Lord set ambushes against the invading army and they were defeated.

There are many opposing armies in our lives.  Lies we believe.  Difficult relationshipsFinancial hardship.  Whatever battle you face this day, it cannot have you.  You belong to God.  So stand and wait to see the glory of the Lord!
