Do you ever find yourself losing sight of your first love? Do the struggles and battles in life seem to distract you from the real value of living each day? Do you get caught up in reading through the bible in a year, rather than cherishing the love letters sent from God? Do you ever come to a point where you think iron sharpening iron sounds more like a clinging gong? I know that I do and I set out to reset my compass when I recognize this. Lets look at what I found as searched for my first love once more.
How we approach each day, and how we allow our time to be controlled will determine how we enjoy our journey. We need to be able to shut out the voices of the world and hear the voice of God. We need to give Him the first of our day and receive His love to overflowing. And understand that it is not just here I am Lord, I read your word, said a prayer, now bless me. It is about sitting before Him with all your dreams, hopes, and sorrows as if He is your best friend; because in all reality, He is. Be willing to read His word and let it change you mind, will and emotion. Allow Him to plan out your day, subject to change according to the Holy Spirit.
I find myself frustrated at the end of the day with not getting done what I had set out to accomplish that day. We have to be very careful the doors we open ourselves up to. Some lead to productivity and allow us to accomplish our mission for our families, others doors will lead us to help others find their way, and some like Alice in Wonderland may be rabbit holes. Not that all rabbit holes are bad, look at Alice when she finally got out; at least she knew who she was. But there are some that lead to nowhere and accomplish nothing. There are some things we have to set aside and trust God will be the one to complete the task. There are some people we have to set aside, also.
We need to begin our day seeking the Holy Spirit and tell ourselves; if God is not in it, I don’t want to be part of it. This is part of being set apart. Only when we know the character of the Father can we recognize Him in our accomplishments. For He is the way, the truth and the life. If your life is being sucked out of you, then I doubt God was in your plans. Only when we know His presence, can we see His hand upon what is being done. No not ever day will go the way we want…and that may be or not be because God is in it. However if we have peace and know He has walked us through it, then we have this hope in earthen vessels. Give your day over to God first and then at the end of the day, thank Him for what He has walked you through. Count your blessings and shut out the voices that do not encourage you to seek Him first. For in Him you live and have your being. This is our blessing. Don’t let the day get by you without seeing your hope of glory! Take a moment and reset your mind if you need, but get back to your first love.
God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Col 1:27
